Hobos Morris

Hobos Morris was formed in 1993 coinciding with the 50th anniversary of D-Day.  Our name, our colours; red, black, mustard and our badge, the Raging Bull, are borrowed from the 79th Armoured division, commanded by Monty's cousin Major-General Percy Hobart (Hobo).  Hobart and his team's major contribution to D-Day was for developing 'Hobo's Funnies' - unusual army vehicles to assist in clearing obstacles assisting our forces on and past the landing beaches.

Our dancers are all female, dance style mainly border, plus some unique ones choreographed by our side.  We have a great band, based in Poole, Dorset.  Our band love to play so much that it has recorded 4 CDs, which we are delighted to sell!  For festivals, we paint our faces as tigers, for no real reason other than we prefer it to the traditional black.  We are know for our energy, enthusiasm, fun and glitter!!

We are delighted when we are able to dance with another side which has learnt one of our dances at a workshop when we can do a 'head to head' and all finish at the same time!!

Among the many folk tunes there are tunes composed by band members and we often hear the strains of 'Amoco Stomp' played at folk festival by other sides, a great compliment.

Holly Copse Molly

Holly Copse Molly is based in Bournemouth.  We are a Molly side, slightly different dancing than traditional Morris sides.  We can be seen for miles around in our bright yellow, black and magenta costumes.  Molly dancing comes from the Fens and when Plough Boys had their day off, to try and get beer money, they would perform with face paint to be in disguise.  Some would dress like females so that if they were caught, they were not penalised as much as males for begging.  We dance for fun.
